6th December 2015 – 2nd Sunday of Advent (C)

HN1L-2The Jubilee Year of Mercy proclaimed by Pope Francis begins on Tuesday next, 8th December, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. We pray that this will be a time of reconciliation and grace for all of us.  “Mercy is the Lord’s most powerful message”  words of Pope  Francis                                                     

Opening of Holy Door – the Jubilee Year of Mercy
An invitation is extended to all parishioners to join with Bishop Buckley as he opens the Holy Door in our Diocese for the Jubilee Year of Mercy.  This will take place on Saturday 12th December at 6:30pm Mass at Saint Francis Church, Liberty Street.

Feast of the Immaculate Conception:  Vigil Mass on Mon. at 6pm.    Tues. 8th Dec  Masses at 10am & 6pm.

Jesse Tree: 
The fourth symbol: God delivered the commandments to Moses on Mount Sinai, written on tablets of  stone.
The fifth symbol:  We hang a trumpet on the Jesse Tree.  The walls around Jericho crumbled at the trumpets of rams horns blown by holy men.
The sixth symbol.  David became a shepherd of God’s people. The shepherd’s crook reminds us of Jesus the Good Shepherd who laid down his life for others.

Messiah: At the Church of Ss. Peter & Paul  on 19th Dec.  a performance of Handle’s Messiah by Cor Cois Abhann, full orchestra and soloists. See notice at back of Church

Turner’s Cross Senior Citizens Christmas Party will be held on next Sat.12th Dec. at 3pm in the Nemo Complex. Names must be in by Tuesday  8th Dec.

Parish Christmas & Triduum Cards  are available in the Parish Office after Masses this weekend   The Triduum of Masses will be offered on 23, 24, 25 Dec.

Deaths: We remember in our prayers  Jim Royal, O’Connell Ave and Brian Heaphy,  Fr.Matthew Rd,  who died recently. We extend our sympathy their Families.

Morning and Evening Prayer of the Church will be celebrated on Tuesdays in Advent.  Morning Prayer (Lauds) will be celebrated in the church after 10.00 am Mass, and Evening Prayer (Vespers) will be celebrated after the 6pm Mass on Tuesday 8th December.

Ministers of the Eucharist  can collect their Rotas in the Sacristy.

Ministers of the Word can collect their Rota & Missal for  2016 in the Sacristy.

The Acclimation after the Consecration of the Mass for the coming month     “When we eat this Bread and drink this Cup, we proclaim your Death. O Lord, until you come again”

L’Arch Christmas Craft Fair in L’Arch Centre, Togher on Sunday 6th Dec. 10am to 4pm. Support appreciated.

St Joseph’s Young Priests Society will meet on Tue. next 8th Dec. after the 10.00 am Mass in the Parish Centre.

Christmas gifts with a difference.  Last year there was a very good response to the Gift with a difference. You can purchase a Trocaire  gifts  and get the card to sent or give to a friend. Available at the back of the Church from members of the Parish Assembly after Masses this weekend.

The Parish Library is open this weekend 5th & 6th Dec. to get or return a book.

Santa Clause at Turner’s Cross Community Centre Curragh Rd, Sat. Dec.12th, 11.30 am.  Children & parents welcome, music, small gifts and refreshments, admission free. Craft fair, where Christmas gifts may be bought.
