| Entrance Hymn: Hail, Queen of Heaven
Hail, Queen of Heaven, the ocean Star,
Guide of the wanderer here below,
Thrown on life’s surge, we claim thy care:
Save us from peril and from woe.
Mother of Christ, star of the sea,
Pray for the wanderer, pray for me. |
O gentle, chaste and spotless Maid,
We sinners make our prayers through thee. Remind thy Son, that He has paid
The price of our iniquity.
Virgin most pure, star of the sea,
Pray for the sinner, pray for me. |
The Ascension of the Lord
Forty days after the Resurrection Jesus ascended into heaven. Technically, this feast should be celebrated on Ascension Thursday (last Thursday). This would give a period of ten days before the feast of Pentecost. In recent years the Church has moved the Ascension celebration to the nearest Sunday, ie today.
The following verse from a hymn by the Freemason, SS Wesley (1810-1876), is a beautiful summary of the meaning of the feast:
Alleluia, not a orphans are we left in sorrow now;
Alleluia, he is near us faith believes nor questions how.
Though the clouds from sight received him when the forty days were o’er,
Shall our hearts forget his promise: ‘I am with you evermore’?
Centenary of Capwell Road. Celebration next Sunday 2-4 pm on Capwell Road. An afternoon of live music, local history, food & activities for all ages. All welcome.
Centenary of Cork Eucharistic Procession Sunday, 7th June. It begins at the Cathedral at 3.00 and processes to the Grand Parade. Our parish will participate and parishioners and friends are invited to give their names to the sacristy asap so that we can inform the organisers of the numbers taking part. Participants need to be at the Cathedral from 2.30 pm. Those who are unable to process from the Cathedral can join in the celebration in the Grand Parade at 3.45 approx.
First Communion
The children from Bunscoil Chriost Ri received their First Holy Communion on Saturday, 16th May. We pray that this will mark a significant milestone in their life’s journey, one that they will cherish throughout their lives. It is an occasion for parents and families to think of the future of their child, who will need a living faith in the years ahead. Now is the time to develop this faith. The children who received their first communion are invited to a procession here in the church on Sunday 31st May, at 11.00. This will be followed by refreshments in the parish centre for the children and their parents.
