Entrance Hymn: All people that on Earth do dwell

1. All people that on Earth do dwell,
Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice;
Him serve with fear, his praise forthtell;
Come ye before him and rejoice.

2. The Lord, ye know, is God indeed;
Without our aid he did us make;
We are his folk, he doth us feed,
And for his sheep he doth us take.

3. O enter then his gates with praise,
Approach with joy his courts unto;
Praise, laud, and bless his name always,
For it is seemly so to do.

4. For why? The Lord our God is good;
His mercy is forever sure;
His truth at all times firmly stood,
And shall from age to age endure.

Vocations Sunday

One the fourth Sunday of Easter each year we focus on vocations to the priesthood and the religious life (Sisters and Brothers). Both vocations have endured a testing time in recent years. Currently, we have no seminarian preparing for the priesthood in Cork and Ross. Nationally, the seminary situation is more positive. I believe Cloyne diocese has six seminarians.

          So what is a vocation? It is a call from God to follow him in a particular way for the good of his people both at home and on the missions. The call comes through human means: God does not appear in human form to call someone to priesthood or religious life. A young person will be awakened to God’s call in the ‘bits and pieces of everyday’, especially people’s need for spiritual nourishment, through the sacraments and personal care. I was inspired to go for the priesthood by the curate in Bandon as I was growing up. And you all know him: Fr Kerry. He was omnipresent to the people of the parish, including the schools. I felt the call to a similar mission. And I haven’t been disappointed. While all my appointments were challenging I had a sense of purpose and belonging that really mattered. This is certainly true here in my family, the parish of Turner’s Cross.

          Let us pray today – and everyday – that young people will be awakened to the call of God. Each of them needs it for themselves but more so for the people of future generations.

Capwell 100 Celebrating 100 years 1926-2026

You are invited to the Capwell Road centenary free celebration for the whole community on Sunday May 24th 2026  2- 4 pm on Capwell Road.  An afternoon of live music, local history, food & activities for all ages, made possible with generous support of the local businesses & Cork City Council.

Boiler Fund

We have finally arrived at being in a position to pay for the new church boiler which costs €29,300. We offer our thanks and prayers to all who took this challenge seriously and, particularly, the number of anonymous donors. We hope that you will enjoy not just the heat of the church but that you will also feel the warmth of the parish community and the warmth of the love of God. We will continue to leave the box at the altar rails as the weekly collection does not meet the expenses of the parish. More on this anon.

Concert tonight

The Fleischmann Choir is coming to Christ the King Church this evening, beginning at 7.00 pm. Under the direction of Tom Doyle, the Fleischmann Choir and guest soloists Emma Nash, Gemma Ní Bhriain, Ross Scanlon and Brendan Collins present Mozart’s Missa solemnis in C minor (KV 139), written for the consecration of a new orphanage church, and Schubert’s rousing Magnificat in C major (D 486).

Recessional Hymn: Hail Redeemer, King divine!

Hail Redeemer, King divine!
Priest and Lamb, the throne is thine;
King, whose reign shall never cease,
Prince of everlasting peace.
Angels, saints and nations sing :
“Praised be Jesus Christ our King;
Lord of life, earth, sky and sea,
King of love on Calvary!”
King, whose name creation thrills,
Rule our hearts, our minds, our wills;
Till in peace, each nation rings
With Thy praises, King of kings.
