Alleluia, sing to Jesus

Alleluia, sing to Jesus, his the sceptre, his the throne;

Alleluia, his the triumph, his the victory alone:

Hark, the songs of peaceful Sion thunder like a mighty flood:

Jesus, out of ev’ry nation, hath redeemed us by his blood.

Alleluia, not as orphans are we left in sorrow now;

Alleluia, his is near us,

faith believes nor questions how;

Though the cloud from sight received him

when the forty days were o’er,

Shall our hearts forget his promise, ‘I am with you evermore?’

Easter Sunday marks the climax of the liturgical year. It brings to completion what began at the first Christmas, when God became man. He entered fully into the human condition and experienced the joys and sorrows of being human. His excruciating sufferings were the consequence of his love for humanity. He gave himself fully, to the extent of giving his life for us. But death was not the end. He rose from the dead on Easter Sunday morning and gave hope to all people of an eventual triumph over suffering and death. This message has a greater immediacy this year given the trauma of the Middle East war. Millions of people are living with fear, grief and injury as the two sides of the war wage revenge on each other.

            Today’s feast should also help lift us out of our own personal negativity and despair. Even if we have serious health issues, either physical or mental, these are not what defines us. We have been baptised into the family of God and will eventually share fully in the resurrection of Christ.

            All our Masses this weekend are offered for the people of the parish. May our participation in this Easter Mass renew our appreciation of being Christian and may we leave here full of the deep-down joy of the resurrection. Gaudium Paschale! Beannachtai na Casca

New Sunday Mass Schedule: From next Sunday, 12th April, Mass will be at 11.00 am. Saturday evening Mass continues at 6.00 pm.

Thanks to all who are facilitating our celebration of Holy Week and Easter. It takes many people to bring each ceremony to fruition. And, of course, it is the Holy Spirit at work in us all which ensures that the ceremonies bear fruit.

Special Thanks to Ian Wolfe who has gratuitously painted all the doors of our church. They needed refurbishment and his generosity has saved the parish a considerable amount of money.

Easter Collection

The collections at the Masses this weekend form part of the priests’ income. Thanks in advance for your contribution. Thanks too for the dues which are being returned at the moment. The thoughtfulness and generosity of parishioners is most appreciated.

Coffee Morning This Tuesday after 10.00 Mass. All welcome.

Boiler Fund The amount received to date is €22,720. Thanks to all who have contributed, especially the anonymous donations which form a substantial part of this sum. Overall cost of boiler: €29,300.

Recent Deaths The death has occurred of Caitlin Cronin, Friars Road and Cora Allen, Mercier Park. May they rest in peace. We offer our sympathy and prayers to their families and friends.

Recessional Hymn: Hail Redeemer, King divine!

Hail Redeemer, King divine!
Priest and Lamb, the throne is thine;
King, whose reign shall never cease,
Prince of everlasting peace.

Refrain:
Angels, saints and nations sing :
“Praised be Jesus Christ our King;
Lord of life, earth, sky and sea,
King of love on Calvary!”

King, whose name creation thrills,
Rule our hearts, our minds, our wills;
Till in peace, each nation rings
With Thy praises, King of kings.
