Preparation for our Lenten Confession: Next Weekend, 28-29 March
A number of priests will be available for the sacrament after each of the three Masses next weekend, including a Capuchin from Holy Trinity. Please ensure you have a copy of the leaflet on the Sacrament of Penance which is available from the altar rails. If you read this leaflet at your leisure in the meantime it will ensure that you are prepared for the sacrament. The examination of conscience is based on what was on offer in Lourdes some time ago. The sacrament is more about the future than the past but we can’t have a positive future without being healed of the sins of the past.
Confession/Sacrament of Penance
What has commonly been referred to as ‘Confession’ is more properly called the ‘Sacrament of Penance,’ though it also bears the title ‘Sacrament of Reconciliation’. Confession, penance, and reconciliation are all aspects of the sacrament: we confess our sins; we undertake a penance to underline our seriousness about changing; we are reconciled with God and the Church. My preference is to name the sacrament the ‘Sacrament of Penance’ because that is what was decided at the Council of Florence in 1439.
Confirmation Day Some 50 children from Bunscoil Chriost Ri will receive the fullness of the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation next Thursday, at 10.30 am Mass. These children are from several parishes throughout the city and beyond. We appreciate the preparation done by the teachers.
Come and See Afternoon – Sunday 29 March (2–5pm) – Mardyke House, Cork
Are you interested in becoming a priest in the Diocese of Cork & Ross? There will be a “Come and See” afternoon for men aged 18–40 who may be thinking about
priesthood in the Diocese of Cork and Ross. It will take place from 2–5pm on Sunday 29 March in Mardyke House (T12W8RP).
Registration is not required — just come along.

“Priesthood in Ireland Today” – Book Launch with Bishop Phonsie Cullinan
(Bishop of Waterford & Lismore) featuring reflections on the role of the priest today. Bishop Cullinan will launch the book in Mardyke House, Cork City (T12 W8RP) on Monday 23 March at 6pm, and will speak about some of the themes explored in the book. One of the articles is by Mgr Géaroid Dullea, Ballinlough. All are welcome. Refreshments will be served afterwards.
Boiler Fund Prior to this weekend the amount received is over €17,000. It is obvious that parishioners have taken ownership of their church and all that this entails. This was evident when major works were undertaken 25 years ago and it is still true today. All that is very heartening (The full cost of the new boiler is €29,300).
New Sunday Mass Schedule From 12th April Sunday Mass will be at 11.00 am. Saturday evening Mass continues at 6.00 pm.
Second Collection next weekend is for diocesan needs.
Recent Death: the death has occurred of Bernie Ryan, Kildare. We pray for her repose and we sympathise with her sister here in the parish, Peggy Collins.
Recessional Hymn: Lord of all Hopefulness
| Lord of all hopefulness,
Lord of all joy whose trust ever childlike, no cares could destroy, be there at our waking, and give us, we pray, your bliss in our hearts, Lord, at the break of the day. |
Lord of all eagerness,
Lord of all faith, whose strong hands were skilled at the plane and the lathe, be there at our labours, and give us, we pray, your strength in our hearts, Lord, at the noon of the day. |
