Entrance Hymn: Praise to the Lord
Laetare Sunday The fourth Sunday of Lent every year is called Laetare Sunday. It literally means ‘Rejoice Sunday’. We are invited to experience the joy of the nearness of Easter. Traditionally, Lent was often seen as a kill-joy kind of season, with emphasis on tough penances. While we are called to penance during this time of preparation for Easter, we are never meant to be deprived of the good news. This is the news that Jesus died for us, to free us from the prison of sinfulness and liberate us for a life of love.
Sacrament of Penance / Confession Weekend Every Lent we offer the Sacrament of Penance after each of the weekend Masses. This year we will do so on 28-29 March. Please ensure that you have a copy of the Sacrament of Penance leaflet well in advance. Copies are available on the altar rails. Mother’s Day Celebration Mother’s Day is a celebration honouring the mother of the family, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. We pray for all mothers in Mass today, especially those who have illnesses or family bereavements. We thank all mothers for their generous participation in the life of the parish.
St Patrick’s Day on Tuesday next. Masses: 10.00 am and 12 Noon “My name is Patrick. I am a sinner, the most uncultured and least of all the faithful. I am looked down upon by many… I did not really know the true God when I was brought in slavery to Ireland, along with thousands of others. We deserved this, because we had gone away from God, and did not keep his commandments. We would not listen to our priests, who advised us about how we could be saved. The Lord brought his strong anger upon us, and scattered us among many nations even to the ends of the earth. It is here that I now find myself, small as I am, among strangers” (Confessions ch 1).
