Entrance Hymn: Amazing Grace

Amazing grace! how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch; like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
  And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
  The hour I first believed!

When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
  Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
  Than when we first begun.

On the Threshold of Lent

Lent is an opportunity for renewal of our faith and religious practice. Mass and the sacraments are at the heart of the Lenten season. The rosary too is a prayer gift that can be enjoyed anywhere and anytime.

Ash Wednesday We will have Mass and distribution of ashes at a special 10.00 celebration on Wednesday next. .

New Boiler – up and running at last!

Question sometimes asked: Will the diocese help with the expenses of the new boiler? Answer: the diocese does not contribute to any financial need in the parishes, neither does it contribute to the income of the priests. All parish expenses and priests’ income are funded uniquely by the generous people of the parish. In addition, it is important that parishioners are aware that the offertory collection at weekend Masses does not go entirely to the parish. 18% of the weekly income goes to the diocese, divided as follows: 10% of it helps the diocese with its expenses; the other 8% goes to the Benevolent fund, which finances the retired priests of the diocese.

We rely on insurance to help fund damage from the elements. In 2023 the gas burner was damaged by flooding in the basement and this was largely covered by insurance. Similarly, with roof repairs: some work will be done shortly to replace tiles on both sides of the roof. The insurance is also covering that. The boiler is a different matter: wear and tear of the past 25 years. Again, sincere thanks to the immediate response for help with that expense, which has exceeded €6000 so far (total cost: €29,303).

Recessional Hymn: Here I am, Lord

I, the Lord of sea and sky
I have heard my people cry
All who dwell in dark and sin My hand will save
I, who made the stars of night
I will make their darkness bright Who will bear my light to them? Whom shall I send?

Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night. I will go, Lord, if you lead me
I will hold your people in my heart

I, the Lord of snow and rain, I have borne my people’s pain. I have wept for love of them. They turn away. I will break their hearts of stone, give them hearts for love alone. I will speak my word to them.

Whom shall I send?

Chorus
