Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness.

And all these things shall be added unto you;

Refrain

Allelu, alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia. Allelu, alleluia

You shall not live by bread alone, but by ev’ry word that proceeds from the mouth of God;

Allelu, alleluia.

Ask and it shall be given unto you, seek and ye shall find;

Knock, and it shall be opened unto you; Allelu, alleluia

Pharisee and Publican (Tax-Collector)

Today we have a profound parable told by Jesus. Jesus was the master storyteller. The stories he composed have entered the languages of the world to the extent that many people don’t realize their origin. Take, for example, the parable of the Good Samaritan or the Prodigal Son. These are iconic figures who have come down to us through the centuries. The good Samaritan is the archetypical kind neighbour. The prodigal son is the wayward who returns to the loving, forgiving family. Jesus told these stories to make people think, to prod his listeners into looking at themselves with their hypocrisy and self-importance. The good story was more effective than any amount of moralizing. Today’s parable deserves our close attention.

Recessional Hymn: Bind us together, Lord

Bind us together, Lord
Bind us together
With cords that cannot be broken
Bind us together, Lord
Bind us together
Bind us together in Love
There is only one God,
There is only one King
There is only one Body,
That is why we sing.

Fit for the glory of God,

Purchased by His precious Blood

Born with the right to be free

Jesus the victory has won.
