Eucharistic Procession 11th June

The Annual Cork Eucharistic Procession is a milestone in the religious and community life of Cork City since 1926.  Each year people from parishes and faith communities throughout the city and beyond walk in the Procession or prayerfully participate along the route as the Bishop carries the Blessed Sacrament from the Cathedral of St. Mary and St. Anne to the city centre. This year the Eucharistic Procession will take place on Sunday 11th June departing the Cathedral of St. Mary and St. Anne to Ss. Peter and Paul’s Church at 3pm.  This will be the 97th celebration of the Cork Eucharistic Procession as we look forward to its 100th anniversary in 2026.  This is also the first Cork Eucharistic Procession to take place since 2019 due to the global pandemic.

Preparations are ongoing to include as many people and faith groups as possible to ensure a dignified and prayerful celebration.  A programme has been created for primary schools to share the prayerfulness and history of the Procession with children.  An invitation has already been sent to choirs and church music directors throughout the Diocese to participate as one great diocesan choir for the Procession.

We hope that many new Faith Communities in the City and the Diocese will participate this year. In this regard, we warmly invite all Parish and Faith Communities to join the Eucharistic Procession and walk in faith together.

This year the Procession will follow a slightly different route from the North Cathedral to Ss. Peter and Paul’s Church crossing the river over Christy Ring Bridge.

In another change of format, we are also inviting as many people as possible to join the Procession from the Cathedral.  You are invited to gather at the Cathedral of St Mary and St Anne at 2.30pm to walk in procession to Ss Peter and Paul’s Church where Bishop Fintan will preach the homily and conclude with the celebration of Benediction.

Alternatively, people can go directly to Ss Peter and Paul’s where the celebration will be streamed and broadcast inside the Church and outside on large screens or join the Procession at any point along the route.

Two members of the parish are invited to the Procession Launch at the Cathedral Visitor Centre on Tuesday 23rd May 2023 at 6pm where the format and the details of the Procession will be outlined in detail.
