Fifth Sunday of Easter

Parish Assembly: Meeting on Monday 8th May.

First Holy Communion Saturday next, 13th May, at 10.30 am

This is such a special day in the life of the children who will receive the Eucharist for the very first time. I’m sure we all remember our First Communion Day. It is the occasion when each child is centre stage in the church; they are being hailed as special friends of Jesus. He comes to them in the most personal way. The journey which began at baptism is receiving a major advance: food for the journey. But this food is the person of Jesus himself. We pray for the children and their families and hope that this will mark the beginning of a new commitment to be friends of Jesus. Parents have a huge responsibility to ensure that this is not a once off occasion. That would be most disrespectful to the Lord and confusing for the child. Parents who go against the grain of the secular society in which we live and make every effort to be true to their child’s baptism and communion deserve all our support. There is no doubt but that their courage will be richly rewarded in the years ahead as their children grow to adulthood.

Sincere thanks and congratulations to the two teachers in Bunscoil Chriost Ri who prepared the children so well for this their second sacrament: Ms Fitzgerald and Ms Kavanagh. May you too be greatly blessed for your dedication and inspiration.

New Rotas for ministers of the Eucharist and the Word have been prepared by Christine and Maeve for the period, 20th May to 16th July. They are available in the sacristy. The parish owes a big debt of gratitude to all the ministers and especially to Maeve and Christine who painstakingly prepare these rotas.
