9th October, 2022 TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Autumn Dues

Autumn Dues envelopes are available in the church. Envelopes may be returned to the Parish Church, to a Priest’s house or by post to Fr Noel O’Sullivan. Many thanks to those who have contributed already.

Altar Servers

Children in third and fourth class have been invited to become altar servers and we are awaiting the response following discussion with their parents. When the altar servers are back their parents will need to be present with them in the sacristy before and after Mass.

CONNECT 2: Meeting of Young Adults with Bishop Fintan

A reminder that young adults (18-35) can register for CONNECT 2 on Sunday next 16th October at University College Cork. The day begins at 10:30 am and ends with Mass at 4.00 pm in the Honan Chapel. Almost 100 Young adults from across the diocese joined Bishop Fintan for CONNECT in UCC in May for a great day of faith, fun, food, and sharing as we explored how we can all become better missionary disciples for the Lord. Register on the Cork & Ross Diocesan website.

Priests’ Retreat

The priests of the diocese will be on retreat this coming week from Monday to Thursday inclusive. Your prayers would be appreciated by all of us. As a result there will not be daily Mass on those days, i.e. Monday to Thursday this week. Masses will continue in religious order churches. Fr Martin Kavanagh SMA will cover funerals in this area.

Funeral Ministry

We intend to increase the funeral ministry team and extend that ministry to include a visit to the home of the bereaved to sympathise on behalf of the parish and to discuss the choice of readings, as presented in the new diocesan booklet. Again we invite those who would like to help with this ministry to make contact.

Baptism Team

We hope to set up a course in the parish centre for parents who have booked a baptism. This would consist of one evening led by parishioners. Interested parishioners are invited to indicate their willingness to help with this course.

Diocesan Quarterly Collection

This collection will be taken up at all Masses this weekend.  These Collections enable the Diocese to support parishes through central services. Bishop Fintan comments that the generosity and loyalty of parishioners ensure that vital Diocesan needs are met, as he thanks us for our support.

Music

Singing is being introduced at the 10.00 am Mass on Sundays and all are invited to join in.  The 12.00 choir is going from strength to strength, thanks to all involved.

Parish Secretary Needed

The new secretary will have an office in the Parish Centre and it is envisaged that he/she would work three days a week for three hours each day. A person with good secretarial skills is required. Experience with MS Office, in particular MS Word,  is expected.  Experience with maintaining a website would be advantageous. This is an important pastoral support for the parish. Interested parties should contact Fr. Noel O’Sullivan in the first instance on 087 2610276.
