8th October 2016 – 26th Sunday Ordinary Time (A)

WORLD MEETING OF FAMILIES
The World Meeting of Families is held every three years in a different city and country. Pope Francis has chosen Dublin for the next meeting from 21st to 28th August next year. The theme of this meeting is: The Gospel of the Family: Joy for the World. These major international events bring together families from across the world to celebrate, to pray and to reflect upon the central importance of marriage and the family, in our lives, in society and in the Church.

The key moments are as follows:

A National Opening on 21st August will take place simultaneously in all the different dioceses of Ireland.

A three-day Congress will run from 22nd to 24th August with a programme of keynote speakers, workshops, talks, testimonies and discussions. There will also be an engaging and exciting programme for young people as well as fun activities for children. There will be daily celebration of the Eucharist, prayerful activities, exhibitions, cultural events and musical performances.

On Saturday 25th August there will be a Festival of Families, a concert style event with a prayerful and joyful atmosphere, in which personal stories of faith will be shared by families from all continents.

The World Meeting of Families will close on Sunday 26th August with a solemn Mass for thousands of people from Ireland and all over the world. It is hoped that Pope Francis will be the principal Celebrant.

We begin our preparation at Turner’s Cross Parish this weekend with the launch of our World Meeting of Families Preparation Calendar and solemn recitation of the Family Prayer at the conclusion of each Mass. Each Family is asked to take a copy of the Preparation Calendar (one per family).
