23rd October 2016 – 30th Sunday Ordinary Time

Mission Sunday.  A second collection will be taken up at all Masses this weekend as we support missionary activity abroad through our prayer, sacrifice and financial contributions. The funds collected help Churches who need financial support and are directed towards communities in need, both spiritually and materially.  Last year Irish Catholics contributed more than €1.7 million on Mission Sunday, and this collection was distributed to more than 1,000 young Churches in need. Contributions are used to build simple mission churches, to educate seminarians and female religious novices, and for the formation of catechists and lay leaders. Our Mission Sunday gift may also be used for building health facilities and for emergency aid. We remember the work of missionaries throughout the world including more than 1,300 Irish born missionaries.

Holy Land: Fr Kerry and the Turners Cross Parish pilgrims are near the end of their pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Their weekend activity will include the Stations of the Cross along the Via Dolorosa, Mass in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre at Calvery, visit to the Church of the Dormition of Our Lady and the Wailing Wall, Mass in the Ecole Biblique where Fr. Jerome Murphy O’Connor lived and worked for 47 years, and a visit to Fr. Jerome’s tomb. On Monday they return to Cork.  We pray that the pilgrimage will be a time of grace for our pilgrims and for our Parish.

Deaths: We remember in our prayers Br. Enda (Matthias) O’Donovan, Br. Michael (Denis) McAuliffe, Presentation Brothers, Maiville, and Br. Terence Hurley, Presentation Brothers, Killarney who died recently we extend our sympathy to their families and community.

Remembrance Weekend 5th & 6th  November. All Masses offered for our Dead remembering especially those who have died since November 2015.  Nightlights available at back of Church to light and place at the altar rail in their memory.  Those who lost loved ones during the past year will be remembered in a special way at all our Masses. Remembrance Weekend is an opportunity to give thanks for the wonderful gift of family, kind neighbours and friendship.  All of us are shaped and influenced by what has happened in the past and during November we pray for those who have died and acknowledge their influence on our own lives.
