South Chapel 250th Anniversary
Congratulations to the South Parish community who celebrate the 250th anniversary of St. Finbarr’s South Church, affectionately known as the South Chapel and the oldest Catholic church in the city.
World Homeless Day 10th October: To mark this day we will facilitate a clothes collection in the Parish Centre before and after all Masses on the next two weekends, for either Cork Simon or SVP – you will choose which one you want to support.
Death: We remember in our prayers Brenda Cronin, Derrynane Road, who died recently. We extend our sympathy to her family.
Gougane Barra Sunday: Bus leaves Bunscoil Chriost Ri at 12.30pm
The annual collection for the Education of Students to Priesthood & Diaconate takes place at all Masses this weekend 24th/25th September. This collection is the principal source of funding. Your support is very much appreciated.
Society of St. Vincent de Paul. The September Church Gate collection amounted to €1,265. The local conference spends more than that providing assistance in our parish. Without your help the Society could not function and we thank you for your generosity and looks forward to your support with the October collection next weekend.
Marymount Coffee Morning. Sincere thanks to all who supported the Coffee Morning in the Parish Centre on Thursday 15th September, which raised over € 900. A special thanks to Chris Fitzgerald and her hardworking team.
Anointing of the Sick on Saturday next1st October at the ten o’clock Mass.
Training for Parish Catechists – Certificate in Catechesis. Following successful completion of the first two year programme and commissioning of Parish Catechists, applications are invited for the course to begin in January 2017. This is offered in partnership with Maryvale Institute over two years with four course days per year and supported distance learning. Participants complete 12 assignments over 2 years. Parish Catechists are commissioned by the Bishop.The course is also open to those who wish to deepen their understanding their faith. Two information sessions at the Blackrock Parish Centre on Wednesday 12th October 2:30 to 4:00pm and 7:30 to 9:00 pm, dealing with the course and the ministry. The Pro Life Amendment. Bishop William Crean of Cloyne will speak on “How to argue in defence of the Pro Life Amendment” at the Hibernian Hotel, Mallow on Monday Sept 26th at 7:30pm. Speakers include Margaret Hickey and Patrick Carr of Family & Life. Former TD/Senator Paul Bradford will chair the event.
Turner’s Cross Pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Due to family circumstances including a bereavement, a few places have become available on the Pilgrimage from 16th to 24th October. Application for these should be made immediately, a current passport not expiring before April 30th 2017 is essential.
