Like the wise men we are searching for meaning and purpose to life. Perhaps a good New Year Resolution might be to take our faith more seriously, and to ask the Lord to deepen that faith. We pray for strength and courage on our journey especially when the going is difficult. As Pope Francis said in his World Day of Peace Message, “may we refuse to fall into indifference or a monotonous routine which prevents us from discovering what is new, “let us ward off destructive cynicism!”

“Another fresh new year is here . . .
Another year to live!
To banish worry, doubt, and fear,
To love and laugh and give!
This bright new year is given me
To live each day with zest . . .
To daily grow and try to be
My highest and my best!
I have the opportunity
Once more to right some wrongs,
To pray for peace, to plant a tree,
And sing more joyful songs!”
― William Arthur Ward
