Pope Francis sends his blessing to Turner’s Cross and asks us to pray for him. Fr Kerry has spent a week of prayer and study in the Irish College in Rome and concelebrated Mass with Pope Francis in the chapel at Casa Santa Marta in the Vatican last Monday, and had a private audience with the Pope after Mass. Pope Francis sends us his blessing and asks for our prayers.
As we pray for Pope Francis, we remember his prayer intentions for September: “That the mentally disabled may receive the love and help they need for a dignified life”; and “that Christians, inspired by the Word of God, may serve the poor and suffering”. We also remember the many other concerns of the Pope, including the extra meeting of the Synod of Bishops next month which will consider the pastoral challenges of the family and will examine the responses to the synod survey carried out last December. The sixth meeting of the Council of Cardinals took place this week, focussing on the laity and the family and on themes linked to justice and peace, charity, migrants and refugees, health, and the protection of life and ecology. The next meeting of the Commission for the Protection of Minors is scheduled for early October. With the Pope we pray for peace in the Middle East and for persecuted Christians and minorities and we accompany him in prayer on his papal visit to Albania on this Sunday, 21st September.
