Cork & Ross Vocations Promotion Day.
The Diocese of Cork and Ross will host a Vocations Promotion Day on Saturday, March 26th in St Dominic's Retreat Centre, Ennismore, Cork. The day will begin at 11am and will conclude before 5pm. One of the features of the day is that it will be attended by current clerical students for the Diocese in Maynooth. Those who attended such days in previous years indicated that they appreciated being able to talk with our seminarians. Bishop Buckley, in launching the initiative, said that sometimes people are reluctant to make the first step in exploring the possibility of a vocation to priesthood. This day, he said, allows prospective students to do that in an informal setting. The Diocese of Cork and Ross currently has five students. Four of these are studying in Maynooth and one is in the Irish College in Rome. One of our students, Anthony Buckley, will be ordained to Priesthood on Saturday, June 4th. There is no need to book in advance. However, if required, further information on the Vocations Day on Saturday, March 26th can be had from: Fr Charles Kiely, CC, Turners Cross. Tel: (021) 4313103 or Fr Tom Deenihan, Diocesan Secretary. Tel: (021) 4301717.
Turners Cross Parish Mission Statement
Responding to out call to serve on the assembly, and relying on the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to working with our parish clergy in whatever way we can to maintain a vibrant and caring faith community in Turners Cross Parish. We will endeavour to lead by example, as well as by various initiatives, as we strive to achieve our aims. We will work together as a team and enlist the help of others as we seek to nurture a parish community that is inclusive and Christ-centred in everyday life.
Parish Assembly
Those members of Parish Assembly who do not have email can collect print-outs of the Minutes of the meeting from Sacristy.
Gospel Corner
Starting this Sunday, young children are invited to collect a picture from the Altar rails in which they are to colour in and bring back next Sunday, the picture will depict next Sundays gospel. This will help our children to understand the story behind the picture. Over the weeks a collage of pictures will be displayed in our church.
Towards Healing and Renewal (Irish Episcopal Pastoral Letter)
The first anniversary of the publication of the Pastoral Letter of Pope Benedict XVI to the Catholics of Ireland occurs on 19 March 2011. To mark this anniversary Irish bishops wish to bring the following three important initiatives to the attention of the faithful: the publication of their pastoral response Towards Healing and Renewal; the new Catholic counselling and support service for survivors of abuse; and, the progress of listening and consultation exercises which have been taking place. This publication outlines the following steps: Prayer for the Survivors of Abuse, including a commitment on the part of bishops to dedicate each First Friday to prayer and fasting in reparation for abuse and the failure to address it adequately; a commitment to listening with sensitivity and care to the experiences of those who suffered abuse; spiritual support to survivors of abuse who wish to avail themselves of it, including the opportunity for spiritual direction; ongoing commitment to creating a safer future for children in the Church in accordance with Safeguarding Children; a review of Dioceses, Religious Congregations and Societies by the National Board for Safeguarding Children; and ongoing financial support for the work of safeguarding and care. Copies of the Pastoral Letter are available at the back of the church this weekend.
