New Bishop
Today, the Diocese of Killaloe opens the door of its heart in welcome to Fr. Kieran OReilly SMA, who will be ordained as their new Bishop. It is a day of joy for Kieran, his parents Sean & Teresa, his family and the people of Turners Cross – out of the rock from which he was hewn. We all share in this moment as he becomes part of the bigger family that is the Diocese of Killaloe and a successor to the Apostles. We look forward to Bishop Kierans official return to Turners Cross in October.
We pray for him and wish him well as he assumes the role of Shepherd – Bishop. May he find happiness and fulfilment in the coming years.
Humility
Winston Churchill was once asked, "Doesn't it thrill you to know that every time you make a speech, the hall is packed to overflowing?" "It's quite flattering," replied Sir Winston. "But whenever I feel that way, I always remember that if instead of making a political speech I were being hanged, the crowd would be twice as big."
The common theme of todays readings is the need for true humility and the blessedness of generous sharing with the needy. The readings warn us against all forms of pride and self-glorification. They present humility, not only as a virtue, but also as a means of opening our hearts, our minds and our hands to the poor, the needy, the disadvantaged and the marginalized of society a personal responsibility of every authentic Christian.
