May 24th 2009 – The Ascension

The Ascension
In the Church's liturgical year the Ascension falls forty days after the Resurrection and ten days before Pentecost. The Ascension of Jesus into Heaven is the completion of the Paschal Mystery. Jesus shows us that where he has gone, we are to follow. Before his departure Jesus had some final messages for his apostles. "I will go and prepare a place for you. I am with you always. The Holy Spirit will come. Go teach all nations.  "These final messages of Jesus, before his Ascension were both comforting and challenging for his apostles, and are the same now for all who choose to follow Him.

Student’s Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Come Holy Spirit, true source of
light and fountain of all wisdom.
Come to aid my intellect, send away
any anxiety and worry that surrounds
me during my studies and exams.
Give to me the sharpness of mind to
understand, a retentive memory,
method and ease in learning, the
clarity to comprehend and abundant
grace in expressing myself.

World Communications Day.
We were born to make manifest the Glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us, it’s in everyone. And as we let our own Light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear our presence automatically liberates others.’ Nelson Mandela
For the past year or so world news has been dominated by negativity, evolving around a global economic recession. Good news stories seem scarce and World Communications Day was an attempt to put balance into how we communicate with each other. It’s all about confidence. Am I confident enough to believe that God is a gentle yet significant presence in my life? Am I confident enough to believe in my own light? Am I confident enough to believe in my own goodness? Good balanced communication gives us the freedom to speak, allows us to listen fairly and allows us to nurture good news when it might otherwise be lost.
