Feast of the Immaculate Conception Dec. 8th
Holy Day of Obligation.
Mass Times: Monday 10 am, 12 noon & 6 pm
Traditionally this was the first day of the official countdown to Christmas. Each year Christmas seems to be starting earlier which means, Dec 8th has lost some of its appeal. But it is an important feast day as we remember Mary. As the Mother of God she is often put up on a pedestal, given fancy names and yet she is a woman of the people. She has left a deep imprint in our Gospel accounts. She was a woman of character, courage, bravery, patience and always hopeful. Her feast day is a day of celebration and a celebration of good news that's often hidden and obscure. We ask her blessings on all of us.
Voices
The voice of John the Baptist was a lonely voice
which many of his contemporaries ignored.
There are many lonely voices in our world.
Somewhere at this moment a child is crying,
crying for love or maybe for some bread.
Somewhere a young person is crying,
crying for a listening ear or an understanding heart.
Somewhere an old person is crying,
crying for a visit or a word from their children.
There are a thousand unheard cries in our world,
coming from the victims of injustice and neglect.
Lord, help us to listen to these voices.
Above all, help us to listen to your voice,
whispering to us in the wilderness of our hearts,
telling us that we are loved by you,
and that we are to love one another. (Flor. McCarthy)
