November 2nd 2008 – All Souls Day

Remembering The Holy Ones
Yesterday we celebrated the feasts of All Saints and today All Souls. We remember the saints who have been canonised by the church and those whose names are not widely known who were part of this Community down the years. Saints are not perfect people; they have their faults and weaknesses, their struggles and difficulties. Even the canonised ones have been known to be difficult to live with!! Yet the saints are people of integrity who had a central focus at the core of their lives: the love of God.
As we celebrate these feasts it is a time to remember all those whose lives were focused on God and on sharing God’s love, those whose goodness has inspired us and drawn us to God.
November is traditionally a time for praying, remembering and lighting a candle for our loved ones who have died. We give thanks for them and recall how each one brought a touch of God’s light into the world. We remember their loving deeds and rejoice in their faithfulness. As we thank God for their witness and inspiration, let us renew our desire to live lives that reflect God’s love.
