October 5th 2008 – 27th Sunday of Ordinary Time

DAY FOR LIFE
Each year the Church dedicates one day to celebrating the sacredness of life. This day is known as Day for Life and the theme for this year is Mental Health. It seeks to raise awareness of the needs of those affected by mental ill-health, their friends, their family and their carers, and the support that the parish community can bring.
People with mental health problems or illness often finds themselves on the margins and can feel very isolated. There is still a definite stigma attached to mental illness and many sufferers are unwilling to admit to being affected by this type of illness.
The Irish Bishops have published a Day for Life Pastoral Letter which is available in our churches this weekend. Among other things it contains a list of helpful websites and contact numbers relating to this issue. Let us remember that “The Lord is close to the broken-hearted; he rescues those who are crushed in spirit” Psalm 34
