Olympic Games
Pope Benedict has sent his best wishes to China, the International Olympic Committee and all the athletes who are participating in the Olympic Games.
I am happy to send to all – especially the athletes – my cordial greeting with the hope that each one can give the best his or herself in the genuine Olympic Spirit.
The Holy father said he would be closely following the Olympic Games.
Feast of the Assumption
There is only one path to Heaven. On Earth, we call it Love.'
On Friday next (Aug 15th ) we celebrate the feast of the Assumption of Mary into heaven. It is always a turning point in late summer, not just for those who will get the Leaving Cert results on Wed. but also a reminder that the school holidays will soon be winding down as we head for September.
At the heart of this feast day is a sense of hope. Mary was taken up into heaven to show the other side of death. Death is always so final but as believers we believe in eternal life. It's the hinge on which we rest everything. The Assumption of Mary is a reminder that we are merely pilgrims as we journey through this world. What happened to Mary is God's plan for all of us too. Sometimes we need a boost and a reminder that there is a meaningful purpose to life. The Feast of the Assumption is certainly one of those days.
