February 10th 2008 – 1st Sunday of Lent

Lent 2008.
During Lent there’s no escaping from sin.  Lent is a time when we have to recognise and name the sin that is part of our life.  This means facing up to our failures, our deceits, our greed and our selfishness.  During Lent we have to accept that sin is part of the way we live.  There is no starting point for Lent.  When we begin to see and accept the face of sin in our lives then we begin to have the choice of turning away from it.  Lent can help us to recognise where sin comes from and then leading us on the pathway away from it.

Lenten Masses
The daily Mass Times for Lent  10am and 6pm.

A Lenten Invitation
Lent is an opportunity to grow in knowledge and love of Jesus. A  simple way to do this is to prayerfully read the Gospel in faith.
Each Monday after the 10am Mass –  a group of people do just that with the Gospel for the following Sunday. Join us in the Parish Centre – You will be most welcome.

World Day of Prayer for the Sick
Monday the 11th of Feb is the feast of Our Lady Of Lourdes .
It is world day of prayer for those who are sick.  We think of so many people who are sick and not well, particularly those in hospital at the moment.  The courage, bravery and mind set of so many of these people is inspirational.  We think and pray for each of them and all those who care and look after our sick.  We also ask God's healing in our lives too.  There are areas where we all need healing.  Monday is a good day to pray for such healing.
Lord, gently lay your hands on our sick and on me today.
Gently bring your blessings on us and especially your healing.
I also would like to pray and include ……………

Lord, bless all carers –
they let people know that they are loved.
Bless those who listen – they lighten many a burden.
Bless those who, when nothing can be done or said, remain
to provide a comforting presence –
they help the sufferer to bear the unbearable.
And bless those who give without hope of return –
they give us an experience of your love.
