July 20th 2003 – 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time

The Lord My Shepherd
The people were like sheep without a shepherd, so Jesus looked at them with pity and taught them at some length. In so doing, he fulfilled the ideas of the lovely shepherd psalm. Let us concentrate on one picture:
Near restful waters he leads me,
to revive my drooping spirit.
The sheep on the mountain slopes cannot drink of the water cascading down the hillside, so the shepherd has to form a pod of still water for them. The flowing water is an image of our frenzied activity. Although we believe that God is everywhere, we find it very hard to drink of God’s presence in the hectic flow of life. We need the pod of still time to revive our drooping spirits and flagging faith.
It was a lesson Jesus gave to the Apostles. After a period of action, he called them apart to a quiet place to be by themselves. Unless we periodically come apart we risk being torn apart.

Nemo Rangers
Extract from Irish Examiner 15/7/03
After Nemo’s defeat  by Na Piarsaigh last Sunday in the County Football Championship,Billy Morgan heaped praise on his players for their commitment, loyalty and the phenomenal success they have brought to the Club in recent years. “I cannot say enough about them. They are the greatest bunch of players the Club has ever had. Their character, even in defeat on Sunday night, was magnificent and I’m extremely proud to be associated with every one of them.”
We would like to acknowledge the role of Nemo Rangers in the life of this Parish and in particular this group of players mentioned in the above extract over the last number of years.
