March 23rd 2003 – 3rd Sunday of Lent

Confirmation
144 young people from our four parish schools will receive the sacrament on this Tuesday 25th March at 10.30. We extend a warm welcome to Bishop John Buckley who will lead us in our ceremony.
Before they are conformed by the Bishop, the young people are invited to renew their Baptismal Promises. Then, individually, they approach with their sponsor and kneel before the Bishop.
He lays his hand on each of the candidates. We learn in class that this tradition is an ancient symbol of the tradition of the giving of power and strength. When the Bishop places his hands over those to be confirmed, it reminds us that the Spirit will come to them in power and strength as he came on the apostles.
Then the Bishop anoints the young people with chrism. He traces the sign of the cross on the candidate's forehead and says: "Be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit." When this ritual is complete, the Mass continues as normal.
As we leave the Church on this special day, we hope and pray that the candidates will be strengthened by the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, and that these young people will set a positive example as members of our Christian communities. We wish all those to be confirmed and their families a lovely day on Tuesday.

PLEASE NOTE
Mass on Tuesday 25th March, Feast of the Annunciation, will be at 9.30 am, not 10 am. The Confirmation Mass will be at 10.30 am.
