September 22nd 2002 – 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time

86,000 Seconds of Love
The Lord is close to all who call him.
A message on a flipchart in a retreat centre appealed to me. If you think you are a million miles from God, guess who moved?
Today’s psalm recognises many qualities of God: greatness beyond measure, compassion and love in abundance. Above all, it rejoices that God is always near.
The mobile phone has made communication with friends very easy. Easier still is communication with God for those who have given over their hearts in the act of faith. The Lord is close to us. The question is: am I close to God? Close in thought, in attitude, in behaviour.
God loves me 365 days of the year. Prayer must be my response to God 365 days of the year.
God gives me 86,400 seconds of his love every day. What is my return?
I will bless you day after day and praise your name for ever.
