The Report of the Diocesan Pastoral Startegy Group was launched on Friday June 10th 2005 and adopted by the Bishop of Cork and Ross Dr John Buckley.
The report is the fruit of three years of work which involved hundreds of meetings, consultations, discussions and research. Over 5,000 people of the diocese took part in meetings. Meetings were also held with the clergy and religious of the diocese.
The report is divided into an introductory section and six chapters, five of which concern core themes in the formation of vibrant parish communities.
The consultations recorded strongly that people want a church community which is characterised by consultation, prayerfulness, exclusivity and faithfulness.
The chapters in the body of the report deal with "Parish as Pobal Dé (People of God)", "Parish Identity and Pastoral Areas", "Prayer and Worship", "Faith Formation" and "Leadership and the role of the diocese".
The theme is presented in each and then summarised briefly. A set of practical proposals follows to try to give effect to the ideals and aspirations.
