11th November 2012 – 32nd Sunday of Ordinary Time (B)

The Widow’s Mite
The widow’s mite symbolises generosity. A small gesture bursting with meaning grabs the imagination and immortalises itself. Today’s Gospel notes that the widow has two coins. She could give one, keep the other, and still be considered generous. But no! Her generosity is not half measure. Her reverence for God and her respect for the Law and its requirements are total. The spotlight is on the quality of her giving.
When we respond generously to life’s demands we discover we have to give; and, not only are those who receive enriched, so too are those who give.
As we consider what we give to God, we ask ourselves these questions:  Are the time and money I give to God an adequate expression of GRATITUDE  for all that God gives to me?  Does the time and money I give to God  accurately represent  my LOVE for my Lord and Savior who has given me life?

Logo for Year of Faith (above) The image of a ship symbolises the Church. The mast of the vessels a cross with full-blown sails which form the monogram of Christ (IHS) and in the background is a sun representing the Eucharist.  Faith grows when it is lived as an experience of love received and when it is communicated as an experience of joy and grace.
